In Ultrasonic Cleaning high amplitude sound waves are introduced into a heated liquid cleaning solution. This causes negative and positive pressure. In turn this creates cavitation bubbles that help to blast contaminants from material surfaces.

The part to be cleaned is placed in a bath containing a suitable ultrasonic conducting fluid and De-Ionised water. De-Ionised water is water that has all it’s minerals, particulates and dissolved ions removed by filtration process. It is an extremely pure water. DI water has a great capacity for ions and it will pull  them from the contaminant on the parts being cleaned. It is an extremely active cleaner in itself.

The use of DI water greatly improves the cleaning process. The chemical helps to break down the surface tension of the water. An ultrasonic generator built into the bath produces ultrasonic waves in the liquid. This creates compression waves in the liquid and tears the liquid apart, leaving behind many millions of microscopic voids or potential vacuum bubbles. These bubbles collapse with enormous energy and this in turn helps to clean the parts in the tank.
